ABOUT US
The original Henderson "Hose" Hook & Ladder was officially organized on December 19th, 1853. The Henderson served the Lewistown community by providing fire protection until 1994 — a proud 141 years of services.
Throughout that time, the company made efforts to preserve its history. However, as younger generations took over, much of that history was gradually pushed aside in favor of modern technology and changing priorities.
After 24 years of silence, on May 24th, 2018, an individual unaffiliated with United Fire & Rescue began the mission of preserving Henderson's legacy. Today, the Henderson Historical Society is dedicated not only to honoring the history of the Henderson Fire Company, but also to help preserving the fire and EMS history of Lewistown and all of Mifflin County.
Our goal is to provide a safe, welcoming environment for local firefighters, EMS personnel, and community members to come together and ensure that this vital piece of our local heritage is never forgotten again.
